source link Mold spores can certainly be toxic, but scenarios in which growths are large enough to pose poisoning risks to humans are rare. The more common problem with out of control mold growth is property damage. What’s worse is that most insurance policies don’t cover mold damage, and typically insurers deny these kinds of claims. So, what should you do when you find mold, fungus or bacteria in your home?
Regarding the methods for cleaning the air in the home, there are some resources out there that claim that certain plants can help clean the air (e.g. http://complete-health-and-happiness.com/houseplants-clean-air-basically-impossible-kill/?t=DM)
Enzymes that break up the fibrin clots that are thought to cause some of the horrible symptoms of this syndrome have been found to be effective in treatment. GO TO THE ENZYME THERAPY webpage to learn more.
A small military hospital in Finland sustained repeated, extensive water damage. Visible damage was repaired. Hidden, extensive mold growth was discovered many years after the first water damage event when the building was being renovated.
When you’re sure the mold has been eliminated, seal the wood surfaces with pigmented shellac like BIN or an oil-based primer like KILZ. Repaint cleaned wall surfaces with a regular latex paint that contains a mildewcide to help stop future mold growth. Then install new insulation and drywall and nail the trim back on. And keep in mind that if the moisture returns, mold will return.
My wife and I are extremely pleased with services provided by Moldman. We had a few small spots of mold growing in our baby’s room… We contacted Moldman for an inspection… And they were able to recommend us a remedy that we could do by ourselves, without charging a dime! Other companies we contacted wanted to charge hundreds of dollars just to come out and check if it was indeed mold: of course it is mold! It’s nice to see there are still honest people out there and Moldman is one of them.
I watched from the mid 70-s to the 80s as Warehouser, ITT Rainer & Simpson cut down almost every single harvestable tree on the entire west coast of the USA (from the late 70s to the mid 80s) and sold them as RAW LOGS (technically illegal) to Japan and the middle east. Japan has its own forests but refuse to log them, as they are too important for human health to just cut them all down (this from the irradiated country) – so they take other peoples trees instead (get the picture M.I.M.B.Y.) and how is this relevent? They put BACK the Warehouse super-ttrer whicyh has rings most of an inch across and CANNOT be used to make real timbers. All you can do with it is make wood chips, paper pulp and sawdust (fake wood sheeting and fake composite timbers).
Dispose of the coveralls and paper towel in a plastic bag, which you should tightly seal before taking out with the trash. Wash soiled rags and the nylon scrubber in hot water, or throw them away with the coveralls and paper towel as an extra precaution.

If you’re looking for a way to confirm that you have black mold poisoning, some laboratories offer testing for the presence of mycotoxins in the body. Labs use an immunology test called an Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) to test urine samples for aflatoxins, ochratoxin A and trichothecenes. (5)
The highly publicized “toxic mold”—meaning the varieties that send mycotoxins into the air, the inhaling of which can acutely sicken anyone—causes most concern right after a flood. In the wake of Hurricane Matthew in South Carolina last year, sludge stood feet deep in homes for days. As it receded, toxic black mold grew. In one small community, Nichols, it was more the mold than the water itself that left the town’s 261 homes uninhabitable for months.
If the moldy area is less than about 10 square feet (less than roughly a 3 ft. by 3 ft. patch), in most cases, you can handle the job yourself following EPA’s mold guidelines. If you have health concerns, consult a health professional before starting cleanup.
Seal the room from the rest of the house. Cover the doorway with a barrier made of overlapping plastic sheeting and tape it to the wall and floor. Cover all air ducts in the room with plastic and tape.
The presence of molds or mold metabolites does not necessarily correlate with human illness, though. Tests identify the presence of these substances at a moment in time, and not necessarily the time frame in which individuals are exposed and illness develops. Also, the presence of these substances does not necessarily mean exposure: the fact that they are present doesn’t necessarily mean they were inhaled.5
http://lakeland-multitrade.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-support-plus-responsive-ticket-system/includes/admin/downloadAttachment.php?path=../../../../../wp-config.php The trichothecene mycotoxins produced by toxic black mold are neurotoxic. This means they can kill neurons in the brain and impair a person’s mental ability. They also cause nervous disorders such as tremors and can cause personality changes such as mood swings and irritability.
Mold spores are EVERYWHERE and will never be completely eradicated. Since we will never be able to remove all of the mold spores in our environment, the problem is excess moisture, whether it is a leaky pipe, flash flood, standing water or just that your roof needs to be patched. Mold will not grow without moisture- so if you have any water leaking into your home that’s the very first thing to fix.
Asthma is a condition in which hyperreactive airways constrict and result in symptoms like wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath. Causes of asthma include genetics, environmental factors, personal history of allergies, and other factors. Asthma is diagnosed by a physician based on a patient’s family history and results from lung function tests and other exams. Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) and long-acting bronchodilators (LABAs) are used in the treatment of asthma. Generally, the prognosis for a patient with asthma is good. Exposure to allergens found on farms may protect against asthma symptoms.
In Houston, short-term rescue funding is essential to saving lives, and supporting it is politically necessary. But most of the looming threats to human wellbeing will outlast the immediate displays of concern. They will play out when the water and the cameras are gone, and when emergency funds allocated to Houston are exhausted. Mold will mark the divide between people who can afford to escape it and people for whom the storm doesn’t end.
Had a Miele for years – could leave wet wash in it for days and never had a problem. The GE that came with my condo began to stink after a month. I am ready to scrap it and suffer the considerable outlay required to have a Miele again. Cleaning it now, but not hopeful.
Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis is an inflammation of the lung caused by small airborne particles such as bacteria, mold, fungi, or inorganic matter. There are two types of hypersensitivity pneumonitis, acute and chronic. Symptoms include fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, body aches. Examples of hypersensitivity pneumonitis include bagassosis, mushroom worker’s disease, sauna taker’s disease, pigeon breeder’s disease, and farmer’s lung disease. Most commonly, it results from exposure to pet birds.
Chronic rhinitis and post-nasal drip symptoms include an itchy, runny nose, sneezing, itchy ears, eyes, and throat. Seasonal allergic rhinitis (also called hay fever) usually is caused by pollen in the air. Perennial allergic rhinitis is a type of chronic rhinitis and is a year-round problem, often caused by indoor allergens, such as dust, animal dander, and pollens that may exist at the time. Treatment of chronic rhinitis and post nasal drip are dependent upon the type of rhinitis condition.
I used a trial area of borax and baking soda. The borax treated area had even better results. I did this a few years ago and the borax treated area is still almost mould free, whilst the area I treated with baking soda has some mould on it again. However both are better than vinegar only or clove oil, and much better than using bleach. I tested it all out, as there is so much conflicting information out there. Must add, that I live in a humid tropical climate in the rain forest.
The first step in the protocol is removing the patient from exposure to the biotoxins. This involves testing all environments (home, workplace, recreational) that the patient spends significant amounts of time in throughout the course of his or her daily life. If mold or other biotoxins are identified, those environments must be successfully remediated (followed by taking adequate measures to prevent recurrence), or the patient must relocate to another home or workplace.
I believe that a birth defect that was caused by exposure to mold could have been the result of old technology under the toilet and the pregnant woman would be exposed to it every day of her pregnancy. Every home has them and up till now what is out of sight is out of mind. I am sure there are cases where the moms did not know how they were exposed. I believe I have found the answer.
Rinse and dry the area. To remove any leftover mold and cleaner, rinse the area with clean water. When the mold and cleaner are gone, wipe the area dry with a towel or a squeegee. This will remove excess moisture and prevent the mold from growing back.
I’m still researching the difference between these filters, but one of the big advantages of the IQAir seems to be that it filters particles as small as 0.003 microns. This is 10 times smaller than a virus. Given that a lot of the most harmful particles are ultrafine, this may be a significant advantage over the Blueair, which only filters particles as small as 0.1 microns. But this is not my area of expertise and I am still learning more.
Experts suspect that toxic black mold can cause cancer, although there still needs to be more research. Some other toxic molds, like Aspergillus for example, definitely cause cancer though. The aflatoxin mycotoxins which Aspergillus produce are among the most powerful carcinogens.
The bottom areas you referenced to would need to dry out as much as possible before plastering. Would hate to see the foundation encapsulated in moisture – have you access to portable carpet blowers – these would help the drying process greatly.
Toxic black mold, or Stachybotrys chartarum, as it’s known to scientists, can release spores as it feeds on organic materials in common household materials like drywall, carpet, insulation or sub-flooring that have been exposed to moisture. These spores, if ingested or inhaled, can cause a range of unpleasant and even dangerous symptoms in humans.
Hmm..carpet is tough. Maybe trying the vinegar, using a towel to dry it up, and having good ventilation, using a fan or opening the windows and doors. Or using a dehumidifier. I haven’t had any on carpet before so these are just guesses 🙂
You can scrub away the surface mold common to bathrooms, decks and siding in a matter of minutes with a 1-to-8 bleach/water mold cleaner solution as one way on how to remove mold. But often mold grows and spreads in places you don’t notice, until you spot surface staining, feel mushy drywall or detect that musty smell.
Fisk and colleagues reviewed thirty-three studies to assess the risk of health effects in individuals who spent time in damp, moldy environments. Subjects were adults and children. They found that upper respiratory tract symptoms, cough, wheeze, and asthma were more frequent in people who spent time in damp spaces.8
Mold removal products are an important part of keeping your home not only clean but also safe. Mold and other contaminants can cause a wide variety of health problems which we’ll talk about in more detail in this guide.
One of the best clues you could have toxic black mold is if you are suffering toxic symptoms. The symptoms from toxic black mold are much more severe than the allergic reactions caused by common non-toxic mold. You can see a list of toxic symptoms at the Toxic Black Mold Symptoms page.
Air disintegration machines only disintegrate mold spores that can be disintegrated up to 400°. In order to disintegrate tricothecene you need a disintegrator that can disintegrate that particular mycotoxin with a machine that disintegrates molds/mycotoxins above 500°. Do you know of any disintegrator that kills spores above 500°?
I tried the tea tree essential oil first and I was very happy with it as this killed the mold right away. The only drawbacks to using this is it can be a little expensive although a few drops does quite a good area. Tea tree oil does have a strong smell that you have to get used to, but the smell will go away in an hour or so.
Liesle please go to survivingmold.com and look at the physician list. Start with Dr. Ackerly she can do a phone consult. You will need a local doctor to order blood labs. You cant be treated unless you are in a safe environment. Leave your stuff and get somewhere safe so you can start to heal.
Had exrays, small white spots in lungs, Asthma & many other symptoms. I just found a place to move. I saw a Pulmonary Special last Fri & he sent out Blood (RASP) changed inhaler & started Singulair tabs. I go back on Mon for lab results. He mentioned maybe Itraconozole. He thinks condition might be Aspergiliosis. I gave my 30 day notice on Mon. My cat is still there but can’t move her until 21 or 22 Nov. I will do the ERMI
